Hope everyone had a great Valentines Day!

Here's a brace friendly recipe:

Homemade Oreo's

For the Cookies:1 package devil’s food cake mix
2 eggs
1/2 – cup oil

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Add oil and eggs to cake mix and blend together. Roll dough into balls (a little larger than a quarter). Place on greased cookie sheet. Bake for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool on sheet (until warm). Remove cookies from sheet and place on cooling rack.To assemble the cookies, add about a tablespoon of filling into the center of one cookie. Place another cookie similar in size on top of the filling. Lightly press, to work the filling evenly to the outsides of the cookie. Continue this process until all the cookies have been sandwiched with cream.

Cream Cheese Filling Recipe:
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
1 block of cream cheese (8 oz)
3-4 cups – powdered sugar (depending on desired consistency)
1 – tsp vanilla extract

Cream butter and add cream cheese and mix well. Add powdered sugar slowly until you reach your desired consistency.

OCTOBER IS NATIONAL ORTHODONTIC HEALTH MONTH

October is national orthodontic health month! Here is a brace friendly recipe to try at home:

Pumpkin Cookie Pops

Ingredients:¾ C unsalted butter, softened
½ C brown sugar, firmly packed
½ C canned or fresh cooked pumpkin
1 tbsp orange zest
1 egg yolk
1 tsp pure vanilla
2 ¼ C all-purpose flour
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp ground ginger
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
Pinch salt
20 wooden sticks (tongue depressors or Popsicle sticks work best)

Directions:1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine with electric mixer the butter, brown sugar and orange zest. Add the pumpkin, egg yolk, and vanilla. Mix.
3. Gradually add the flour and spices. Mix with your hands to create a soft dough. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
4. Divide dough into two pieces. Roll out each piece to 1/4-inch thickness on a floured surface. Cut into pumpkin shapes with cookie cutters.
5. Place on ungreased baking sheet and securely insert a wooden stick into the bottom half of each pumpkin cookie.
6. Bake for 12-15 minutes.
7. Decorate with favorite frosting.

Our Annual Holiday Skating Party is coming up, make sure you mark your calendars!

When: Thursday, December 8, 2011
Time: 6:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
Location: Bonaventure Skating Rink

Join Dr. Jusino and the All Star Team for our annual holiday party to benefit the Goodfellows Organization. This will be our 22nd year of helping the Goodfellows ensure, "No senior or child without a Christmas!"

There is no admittance fee, but we do ask for donations for Toys-for-Tots and canned food at the door to help our charities.

How to earn EXTRA tokens?

Candy Buy-Back

Dr. Jusino's Annual Halloween Candy Buy-Back is right around the corner!

When: Tuesday, November 1st
Time: 2:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.
Location: Dr. Jusino's Office

Come trade in your sticky, chewy, brace-busting candy for $2.00 a pound!
All candy collected will be donated.

There will be a costume contest, all patients who come in costume will be automatically entered. We will also have apple cider and donuts for everyone to enjoy.

Dr. Jusino and the All Star Team attended the Damon Forum in Orlando, Florida on February 2- February 5, 2011. The doctor and staff were educated on the continuing growth the damon system has to offer. This forum consisted of three days with eleven courses for each attendee.

Our staff continues to improve our knowledge to help give you the best service and products we can!

Dr. Jusino places tremendous emphasis on continuing education for himself, and his staff. Please note the office will be closed on Wednesday, February 2nd and Thursday, February 3rd for training purposes. Dr. Jusino and the All Star Team will be attending the Damon Forum in Orlando, Florida.
We continue to further our education on the Damon System, and will return with new ideas
our patients are certain to benefit from.
We will have a doctor on call for emergency purposes, and Dr. Jusino will carry his pager with him: (586) 856-6660.

The office will re-open for patient care on Monday, February 7, 2011.

Helping out the community

Our staff volunteered the day after the Holiday Skating Party at the Goodfellows organization. Our time was spent wrapping boxes for the senior citizens. After these boxes are wrapped they are then filled with many different non-parishable foods. (A lot of these foods and toys were donated from our patients at our annual skating party!)

It was such a wonderful expierence for us as a team to give back to our community and
we couldn't have done it without all of your donations at the skating party, Thank you all so much!

Employee Bowling Extravaganza!

Not only does Dr. Jusino hold an Annual Holiday Skating Party for his patients, but this year he took his All Star Team and their families out for a night of bowling. Happy Patients, happy employee's and a happy doctor makes for one AWESOME Orthodontic office!

The team was having so much fun that a group nearby came over and asked how everyone knew each other? They said, "You cannot be family, because no one looks a like and you definitely cannot be co-workers because you all get along too well."

Boy were they wrong! (on both accounts) Not only are we co-workers, but a family as well.

Our 21st Annual Holiday Skating Party 2010

Dr. Jusino would like to give a big shout out to everyone who came and celebrated with us on December 9, 2010 at Bonaventure Skating Rink. It was our biggest year yet, with over 350 patients and their families.

All of the toys and perishable foods you have donated were given to the Farmington Goodfellows, which are to be divided into multiple boxes that are then delivered to families in our area who are in need this holiday season.

Thank you all for your generosity, commitment and support to our practice!

Holiday Fun! -- Popcorn Ornament

As a patient of Dr. Jusino's, you know that popcorn is one of the #1 food items that harm braces. Here is an idea to keep this crunchy snack out of the cupboard and away from your brackets during the holiday.

Popcorn Ornament

1. Heat sugar, corn syrup, margarine, salt and food coloring (if you want to make all different colors) in a four quart, heavy, metal pan over medium high heat. Stir constantly until simmering. Be careful to not overheat and allow to come to a full boil.

2. Remove from heat and add popcorn and stir until popcorn is well coated. Cool slightly. Make sure the mixture is cool enough to handle with your hands, but still soft enough to mold.

3. Shape into 2 and a half inch balls and place on wax paper. Allow popcorn balls to cool completely. About one hour.

4. Wrap individually in plastic wrap, and tie. Cover with your favorite wrapping paper and ribbon to make a great

Dr. Jusino and the All Star Team would like to thank everyone who came out on November 1, 2010 to participate in our Halloween Candy Buy Back. We collected a total of 560 pounds, which was donated to the Goodfellows Organization. GREAT JOB! Along with the Goodfellows, we paired up with State Farm to put together care packages for the troops. All of the candy went to great charities and helped out Farmington Hills community.

Brace-Friendly Halloween Recipe

FRIGHTFULLY FABULOUS CUPCAKE SANDWICHES

INGREDIENTS
12 cupcake liners
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 cup warm (not hot) water
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup sugar
2 cups cake flour, sifted
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 12-ounce can of chocolate frosting
1 16-ounce container of whipped topping

DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Fill a muffin tin with 12 cupcake liners and set aside.

2. Combine cocoa powder, water, and mix until smooth. Fold in mayonnaise. (Make sure cocoa mixture is not hot to prevent breaking of mayonnaise).

3. Add vanilla and whisk until smooth.

4. In mixing bowl, combine sugar, cake flour, baking soda and salt and mix slowly until well incorporated. Add wet cocoa mixture, mix on medium-high until well blended. Scrape down the sides and blend for another 30 seconds.

5. Fill the cupcake liners 3/4 of the way full of batter. Bake for 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Remove from oven and allow to cool on rack. Slice each cupcake in half horizontally, and serve the halves with chocolate mousse or frosting, whipped topping, and assorted candy pieces. Kids can build the sandwiches by spreading one-half of a cupcake with mousse/frosting or whipped topping, sprinkling on candy pieces and placing the other half of the cupcake on top.

A little about Dr. Jusino

Dr. Jusino graduated with high honors in 1981 from the University of Michigan Dental School with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. He was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon (an honorary dental society) and entered the University of Michigan School of Graduate Studies where he obtained his Master's degree and certificate of Orthodontics in 1983.

Dr. Jusino has received awards from the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Academy for Dental Radiology. Dr. Jusino also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. This unique combination of talents enables him to design treatment plans that shorten therapy time in many cases.

He presently serves as a Delegate to the Michigan Dental Association, and was the 1998-1999 President of The Oakland County Dental Society. Dr. Jusino is also a member of the American Association of Orthodontists and numerous other orthodontic specialty societies. Membership provides access to post-graduate conferences, seminars, study clubs and specialty publications that enable Dr. Jusino to stay in the forefront of his specialty.

Dr. Jusino's concern for the betterment of orthodontic care has been recognized and appreciated in media and beyond. He has been featured in Detroit Monthly Magazine, Corporate Detroit Magazine, The Detroit News, The Oakland Press, and Observer Eccentric Newspaper. He has been a guest speaker on WCAR Talk Radio, and has appeared on Channel 7, Channel 4, and Fox 2 News. His practice is committed to excellence, and dedicated to helping patients enjoy long term success in their dental comfort, appearance and function. Away from his practice Dr. Jusino is an avid sports enthusiast. He and his family enjoy the great outdoors, and participating in activities such as rollerblading, skiing, swimming and hiking. The Jusinos are happiest communing with nature. Dr. Jusino supports America's National Parks, and his travels have included camping in many of our Nation's beautiful treasures.
